President (Academics and Operations)

Hi there! My name is Kristen Siegel, and I will be one of your Biology DSC Co-Presidents for the 2016-17 academic year. I’m a fourth year student doing a Biotechnology Specialization, and have always been a passionate plant enthusiast! I will be heading up the Academics and Operations divisions of the Biology DSC, and am extremely excited about developing new programs and resources for Biology students. I love having conversations about biology and academics, so if you ever see me around feel free to stop me and have a chat! Hey everybody! My name is Sabrina Nowak and I am this year’s Undergrad Representative! I am super excited to be working with everyone else on the DSC to create the best Bio experience together with you all this year. I have been passionate about biology since before I could spell it, and my current interests are neurobiology and developmental genetics, but I have a soft spot for evolutionary genetics as well! Hi there! I’m Holly Crawford and I am your RTP Representative! I was born and raised here in Kingston and love this beautiful city. I am a third year Biology Major with a passion for all things animals and outdoors. Most of my time is spent watching the National Geographic channel, cooking, or hanging out with animals. Hey everyone!! My name is Alison Purcell and I am one of the 3rd year reps for the Biology department student council. I'm from a very small town called Spencerville and now happy to call Kingston my home. On top of loving all things biology (especially animals) I also love cooking, theatre and yoga. As the voice of third years I would love to hear from as many students as possible for things to bring to the department student council. Hello everyone! My name is Christopher Wilkins and I am a 3rd year representative. I live in Whitby, Ontario, although I look forward to my yearly return to Kingston. I am interested in almost all things biology related but I also enjoy organic chemistry. On a side note I have also made playing music a major hobby of mine. Hey everyone! My name is Meredith Liang-He and I am one of your 2nd year reps for 2016-2017. I am a 2nd year Con-Ed student in the Bio/Psych Specialization and I am so pumped to be a part of the Biology DSC this year! As my SSP suggests, I love Bio and Psych, particular molecular and developmental. I also love English literature, video games, movies and food (food is the #1 priority). I spend most of my time reading, eating, playing piano and binge-watching Netflix. As a year rep, my first priority is ensuring your questions are answered so please don't hesitate to contact me with all of your Bio needs! I look so forward to representing you all!

Hi friends! My name is Eshwari Nanjappan and I am one of the First Year Representatives this year. I’m from Pickering, Ontario, and I’m excited to spend the next four years at Queen’s! Biology has always been my favourite science, and I have a keen interest in genetics and medicinal biology. In my spare time I enjoy drawing, listening to music, eating, baking, and reading. I’m very interested in genetics, bioethics, and how studying these topics can change our future. Some of my favourite activities include: oil painting, reading biographies, dystopian novels, taking personality quizzes, and petting dogs. Workshop Coordinator

Hey everyone! My name is Hillary Chan and I am your workshop coordinator on Bio DSC this year. I was born and raised in Hong Kong but Queen’s has become my second home. Heading into my fourth year of being a Biology major and a Health Studies minor, I really enjoy studying biodiversity from different perspectives (molecular, cellular, from the field…etc.). In my spare time, I also love traveling, learning new languages and watching Asian dramas as well as Criminal Minds. I’m super excited to organise different skills workshops for you this year. Hi everyone! My name is Chang Chang Chen and I’m so excited to be your Careers Representative for the incoming 2016-2017 year! Originally from Calgary AB, I fell in love with the Queen’s campus upon visiting and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend 4 years here doing a Biology Major. Currently in third year, I still have so much more to learn and can’t wait to spend the last two years growing as apart of the DSC. Knowing what to do with a degree is fundamental in any career path and I’m hoping to bridge the gap between Alumni and students in order to offer more resources, career opportunities, and insight.

I’m going into my third year with a major in biology and am pursuing a certificate in business. Hey everyone! My name is Aimee Bertin and I am very excited to be your new Bio-Culture Newsletter coordinator for the year. Currently in my fourth year of biology, I come from the single stoplight town of Southampton, along the beautiful shores of Lake Huron. I love all things nature, but I am particularly passionate about plants and trees. As my housemate will tell you, I have more plants in my apartment than any one person rightfully needs. Hi everyone! My name is Victoria Gordon and I'm one of your Bio-Psyc representatives this year. I’m currently in my my fourth year of a Specialization of Biology and Psychology here at Queen's. I am really excited to be involved with the DSC this year to facilitate connection of the Biology & Psychology programs on behalf of my fellow Bio-Psyc students. My interests are in animal biology (you can catch me acing the "animal" category at QP trivia night), but I've really enjoyed studying plant physiology as well.
